Shirley is a child of deaf parents and learned to sign when she was only 10 months old. She has taught adults and families American Sign Language through Lane Community College since 1994. Since her initial 1994 class of 15 students, Shirley now teaches over 100 students per term. She has been interpreting in the local school districts since 1990.
Shirley has done outreach for the deaf community through Sacred Heart Hospital, Serenity Lane Treatment Center, Willamette Family Treatment Center and several local churches.
Shirley is a member of the Oregon Association of the Deaf and the Oregon Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf.
Shirley is a mother of four children, and has been a professional sign language interpreter for 30 years.
